Cincinnati's Garage Rock Specialists
Northside Garage is a piping hot 5-way of Cincinnati-style garage rock, served up daily since 2008. With roots going all the way back to Cincy's infamous Jockey Club, NSG puts a modern spin on the 60's garage sound.
Full Service Garage Rock
They burst onto the scene with their first EP release, "Grease, Guns, and Guitars," and after more than a year of touring Cincinnati's local venues, went back to Candyland Recording Studio and recorded "Waiting for the Breakdown." Lead singer Joe Rains describes how their genre-bending style came about: "We decided early on to just let things happen...we never really made a decision about what kind of sound we wanted. We just kind of said 'Let's have fun and make music we like, and hopefully other people will like it, too.' I mean, if you're not having fun, why do it, right? I guess we're kind of lucky that everything worked out as well as it did."
Quality Service, Friendly Technicians
And it did work out - Northside Garage seems to have fans of all ages. Lead guitar player Doug Dickerson offers an explanation
for their widespread appeal:
"I think having different musical backgrounds is one of our strengths - Joe came from a ska band, Steve was in a grunge band, Ted was playing 60's garage punk, and Shelagh and I were playing rock. At first I didn't think it would work out, but the different sounds really work well together...kind of like how Joe plays a Strat and I play a hollow body."
No Job is Too Big
When asked, drummer Steve Sanden has a different theory:
"Our live shows are really energetic and fun...if we're not having fun, the audience isn't having fun. People don't go to shows to hear the CD, they go for the show - and we put on a good live show."
Whatever the reason, Northside Garage's popularity continues to grow. Keep watching, because you'll be seeing more and more of this Cincinnati local band around town.
